How big is my baby?
At 11 weeks pregnant, your baby is between 1 1/2 inches to 2 inches long. If you think of your baby in terms of fruit, your baby is about the size of a strawberry. Additionally, this week your baby officially graduates from existence as an embryo to being a full fledged fetus.
On the outside, your baby’s fingers and toes are now separated from each other rather than webbed. On the inside, your baby’s blood vessels are forming and slightly visible through your baby’s skin. Additionally, tiny little tooth buds are forming underneath your baby’s gums, even though it will be years before you are likely to see them for yourself.
In addition to growing, which is your baby’s main job for the next few months, your baby is already starting to explore it’s tiny little body. You baby can open it’s mouth, form a fist, and even suck it’s thumb. Considering that all of this is happening on such a small scale is pretty amazing.
What’s happening inside my body?
Women’s bodies are amazing and your body is doing amazing things. At 11 weeks pregnant, your placenta has started to function and will continue to play a vital role in delivering nutrients and oxygen to your baby throughout your pregnancy.
This amazing organ is the place where the umbilical cord from your baby connects to your body. Just as your baby grows, your placenta will also continue to grow throughout your pregnancy until it is roughly the size of a small dinner plate.
Can I start to tell people that I’m pregnant?
The decision to spill the beans can be a personal one, especially if you have had difficulty conceiving or have experienced a miscarriage in the past. Ultimately the time and place you share your news is up to you.
For many women, tt’s right around this time that they start to tell their family and friends that they are pregnant. Once you are 11 weeks pregnant, the chance of miscarriage is significantly lower and many women are reassured if they’ve had a chance to hear their baby’s heart beat at a prenatal appointment.
While there may be people who are disappointed that you didn’t tell them sooner, you have to do what’s right for you and not feel guilty about your decision.
